Hello, and sorry you're having problems. Yes this is common to all DLP sets that used the Texas Instruments DLP chip (which this set does), and the dots are the mirrors on the chip failing. The chip itself is around $200 and labor is also around $200 for a total of $400 to repair the set for this problem. If you'd like you can use the link below to locate a tech in your area:
