Was the Lamp an LG OEM or a cheap generic brand?

Ok, that's the problem right there. These cheaper generics are not designed to factory specifications and the most common problems with them is overheating or very dim light.

You'll need to return the Lamp then purchase an LG OEM Lamp. They are more expensive but they're designed by the manufacture for your specific TV unlike the generics. After you replace it with an OEM, you'll be back in business again.
