I have the 42" LE42S704. A couple of weeks ago I got a no signal message on the screen, I had the sat. reciever hooked to #4 HDMI port. I had a Direct TV tech. look at the television, he thought it might be the televsion that was bad (we also checked all 3 dmi ports-no luck), he installed the component cables (5-jacks) from the sat. reciever to the television and it worked. A few days after installing the comp. cables I had been watching TV for about 4 hrs. when I got another no signal message, I shut the TV off for a few hrs. and I am not sure if letting it cool down helped but it would come back on but now it is working less time between signal shut down. I tried new hdmi cables, resetting the reciever, etc, no help. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Thanks for stopping by:The issue you are experiencing is likely a failed AV board processor or cold solder joints. It seems after heating - the thermal expansion causes the tabs to break contact.I recommend replacing the main AV board. However, this is a fairly new set that should still be under warranty? If yes - contact Hitachi to set up warranty service.1-800-HITACHIIm not showing a great availability of the mainboard at any of my usual suppliers. If you have additional - Just Ask.Thanks!
Great!
How do I go about obtaining an AV board? I am an aviation tech. with some soldering experience, and understand esd safety. Is this something I can tackle?
Thanks
LCD tvs are the easiest sets to work on - and yes.... if you own a phillips screwdriver - it is nothing to disassemble the TV and replace the board. My parts list says the LE42S704 takes a 756TQABZK03703 mainboard.Double-check yours to be sure it is the same before ordering a replacement.Shopjimmy.com is a good source of used boards. They are a scavenging company (primarily). They disassemble sets and sell the working parts. But the set is too new to have any parts registered as of yet.PAC parts sells a new board (with $20 core charge) - CLICK HERE to see. You have to scroll down to the 6th item down.If you have additional - or need excerpts from the service manual for anything - Just Ask. (even after rating). Thanks!
