XBR, an acronym for eXtended Bit Rate, designates Sony's highest performance series of WEGA FD Trinitron CRT and BRAVIA LCD televisions featuring advanced features and progressive industrial design. The XBR range is typically derived from equipment that has been released in Japan and Europe as mid and high-end models, usually with some small upgrades.

The KDL's without XBR in the model number are the standard line of LCD, and LED TV's.

If you take the two models in the 65" screen size and look at the specifications below:

XBR:

http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=XBR65HX929#specifications

KDL:

http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=KDL65W5100#specifications

You will not see many (if any) specifications that are favorable to the XBR except for the 240 Hz refresh rate of the XBR versus the 120 Hz refresh rate of the KDL. The pictures given the same HDMI Input, will be very very similar, with an edge in speed going to the XBR set. I personally would be hard pressed if it were me to spend the extra going with the XBR over the KDL series.

If you need further assistance let me know.
