my large flat screen samsung often starts flashing...the entire screen flashes...Best Buy technicians told us this was due to static build up and that the solution is to unplug the tv for a few minutes...it has gotten to the point that we have to unplug it 12-24 HOURS before the flashing stops...surely, there is some other solution...help!thank you.
The procedure the Technicians told you to perform is a band-aid for a failure inside the TV.
Can you please get me the model number off the back of the set, as well as tell me how long you've had it for?
Additionally, what is connected to it (Cable Box, Direct TV Box, DVD player, etc.), and when it "Flashes" will it do this regardless of which device you're watching?
Hi Aric,
Thank you for the reply. Is this something you're looking to repair yourself, or are you looking for a diagnosis and repair estimate? Also, is the TV making a clicking sound at all along with the flashing?
My daughter says it used to make a clicking sound, but it hasn't done that in a couple of months. We've had this issue since October, I think.
Can you please double check the model number off the back of the TV?
Sure...LN T40 42H S
Thank you.
The problem is either going to be the Backlight Inverters are failing, or the Power Supply Output to the Inverters is failing. The only way to tell for sure, is to use a DVM to measure the outputs from the power supply to the inverter boards, both under no load (Backlight Inverters disconnected), and under load (with them connected), to find out which component is causing the problem. If measuring live voltages is not something you're comfortable with, then you would need to have a Tech measure the voltages and determine the culprit. Average cost for this type of repair is going to be $300 parts and labor to fix the set. If you'd like you can use the link below to locate a Tech in your area:
