I just replaced the Y67-LMP lamp on my Toshiba TV. When I turn it on, the lamp does not lite up, and the screen is dark. TV goes through the 8 auto re-starts, then shuts off. What's up?
Optional Information: Make: Toshiba Model: 65HM167 Already Tried: The old bulb was definitely broken. Put in brand new Y67-LMP lamp, still doesn't work.
after it tires 8 times then stops are there any lights on the front of the tv that stay on or blink?
Allan
Yes, the yellow light blinks and the red stays on.
ok unplug the tv and recheck to make sure the lamp door is on tight. then wait 5 mins and try it again.
let me know what happens?
OK I'll try it again. Hang tight. OK still did not come on. goes through the 8 auto-re-starts, then the yellow light comes on and the red light flashes.
last time you said yellow blinked and red was just lit.. witch one is it? it will make a big difference in what i am telling you to do.
Allan, the yellow light comes on and the red light blinks. Michael
ok thank you
pull the new lamp out and inspect it make sure it did not blow.
let me know?
Ok I've already done this, but I did it again and the bulb is fine. It's all back in.
ok we have a issue in the tv. are you able to test inside the tv? or do you need a cost on a repair?
What needs to be tested inside the TV?
several circuits. we will start with the voltage going to the ballast.
Allan, can't find myt volt meter, how about a cost on repair?
there is a wide cost on a repair. it could be a bad ballast and a cost might range around 300.00 parts and labor.... or it could be a bad optical engine and a cost will run 900.00. testing is need to see what part is bad here. here is a link to tv repair shops in your area.

Allan, I found my volt meter, how do I check the voltage on my ballast?
take the back off the tv and take a picture of the tv with the back off. then attach it here
http://imgur.com/
then send me the link to your pictures.
Allan, I took off the smaller section on the bottom of the back, is that what you need or the whole big plastic back case off?
whole back bottom half.
Ok that was fun. The link is http://imgur.com/04lvT.jpg
this link is not working
OK try this link http://imgur.com/04lvT or give me your email and I'll send it.
it does not work either. odd i use this site all day long.
you can attach a picture using the paper clip above where you are typing or you can email it to experts@pearl.com
but if you email it i will not get it until tomorrow.
Ok, this will not upload. I think we have hit a wall. This is not working. Sorry
odd
how large is the picture?
252 KB standard
ok well we can try without a picture. can you find the ballast? this is the board that the lamp plugs into.
Yes with the lamp out, there are 2 female receptacles that the male ends of the lamp housing plug into when it slides in.
ok the other end of this board has a large two wire connector on it. i need the DC voltage off this connector when the tv is first turned on. so one meter lead on each wire and we a re looking for 240-320 volts DC.
If my hair is smoking and my shoes are on fire, how many volts is that?? It registered 240
ok this is good. now next test.
there is a smaller connector going to the ballast. it has 5 wires in it. test each for 3-5 volts DC. use the coax input on your tuner for ground (this is where your cable screws in). these voltages will change will the lamp is trying to fire up so hold the meter lead on each one for a few secs.
There is a connector with 4 yellow 22 gauge wires, and there are 2 connectors with 4 blue and 2 white probably 6 gauge wires. Which ones?
hold on i need to pull a service manual 5-10 mins
ok when I do the test, do I check the voltage with the power and TV on, or turning on like before?
as long as it is in the 8 auto restart the test will be good.
do the 4 yellow wires first
I got no reading on either set of wires, but I'm not sure my voltmeter will read that low.
these voltages are DC and 3-5 volts. what setting is your meter on?
It's an old Wiggy square D voltage tester. It will read 120 to 600 ac or dc
ok we need something to read less or the info i give you will be wrong.
That is the only one I have, let me try one more time.
hit the other connectors and see if you get a reading?
No nothing
ok we have a meter issue. can you borrow one from someone?
Not tonight, can we pick up tommorrow?
yes here is a link back to me.

Hey Allan, I just tested the circuits (wires) we talked about last night with a different voltage tester, and at first the TV was cycling on and off normally, then it shut off and now won't turn on at all. what's up?
