Customer Question

I just replaced the Y67-LMP lamp on my Toshiba TV. When I turn it on, the lamp does not lite up, and the screen is dark. TV goes through the 8 auto re-starts, then shuts off. What's up?

Optional Information:
Make: Toshiba
Model: 65HM167

Already Tried:
The old bulb was definitely broken. Put in brand new Y67-LMP lamp, still doesn't work.

after it tires 8 times then stops are there any lights on the front of the tv that stay on or blink?

Allan

OK I'll try it again. Hang tight. OK still did not come on. goes through the 8 auto-re-starts, then the yellow light comes on and the red light flashes.

ok we have a issue in the tv. are you able to test inside the tv? or do you need a cost on a repair?

Allan

Customer replied 276 days and 23 hours ago.

What needs to be tested inside the TV?

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 23 hours ago.

several circuits. we will start with the voltage going to the ballast.

Allan

Customer replied 276 days and 23 hours ago.

Allan, can't find myt volt meter, how about a cost on repair?

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 23 hours ago.

there is a wide cost on a repair. it could be a bad ballast and a cost might range around 300.00 parts and labor.... or it could be a bad optical engine and a cost will run 900.00. testing is need to see what part is bad here. here is a link to tv repair shops in your area.

odd

how large is the picture?

Customer replied 276 days and 21 hours ago.

252 KB standard

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 21 hours ago.

ok well we can try without a picture. can you find the ballast? this is the board that the lamp plugs into.

Customer replied 276 days and 21 hours ago.

Yes with the lamp out, there are 2 female receptacles that the male ends of the lamp housing plug into when it slides in.

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 21 hours ago.

ok the other end of this board has a large two wire connector on it. i need the DC voltage off this connector when the tv is first turned on. so one meter lead on each wire and we a re looking for 240-320 volts DC.

Allan

Customer replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

If my hair is smoking and my shoes are on fire, how many volts is that?? It registered 240

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

ok this is good. now next test.

there is a smaller connector going to the ballast. it has 5 wires in it. test each for 3-5 volts DC. use the coax input on your tuner for ground (this is where your cable screws in). these voltages will change will the lamp is trying to fire up so hold the meter lead on each one for a few secs.

Customer replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

There is a connector with 4 yellow 22 gauge wires, and there are 2 connectors with 4 blue and 2 white probably 6 gauge wires. Which ones?

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

hold on i need to pull a service manual 5-10 mins

Customer replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

ok when I do the test, do I check the voltage with the power and TV on, or turning on like before?

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

as long as it is in the 8 auto restart the test will be good.

do the 4 yellow wires first

Customer replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

I got no reading on either set of wires, but I'm not sure my voltmeter will read that low.

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

these voltages are DC and 3-5 volts. what setting is your meter on?

Customer replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

It's an old Wiggy square D voltage tester. It will read 120 to 600 ac or dc

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

ok we need something to read less or the info i give you will be wrong.

Customer replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

That is the only one I have, let me try one more time.

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

hit the other connectors and see if you get a reading?

Customer replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.

No nothing

Picture
Expert:  alr3d replied 276 days and 20 hours ago.
