Hi and welcome to JustAnswer,

Thank you for the question and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only...

Initially, the described symptom almost always indicate a cold solder issue. The challenge would be that the often culprit/cold solder joints are on the FBT (flyback transformer) and on the foil side of the PCB (printed circuit board).

Offhand, the above would require that the unit be opened up fully for visual inspection, voltage measurements, confirm fault and effect repairs.

Are you then considering a more in-depth DIY (do-it-yourself) repair approach? Are you familiar with electronic components, have access to / comfortable in the use of a multimeter, a soldering iron and working with high voltage circuits?

Please post back how you would want to approach this and/or should additional information be needed.

I understand.

Options then are:

  • • consider a DIY repair if and only if comfortable working with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM, a soldering iron/station and safe practices with electrically powered devices. Access to a Service Manual or at the very least, a schematic diagram would be a necessity;
  • • should you be uncomfortable with a DIY, perhaps your best bet would then be to consult with and/or seek the services of an authorized Service Center or an independent repair shop / qualified professional;
  • • evaluate other options considering cost of repair, down time, cost of shipping, parts availability and comparable prices of newer/better models.

I realize that the above replies and options provided may perhaps be not what were exepcted. It is unfortunately, a very involved repair job particularly on tracking the cold solder. Although the repair itself is relatively easy (once identified) since all it needs is reheating with a soldering iron.

Please note: An accept, 3 stars or more / smiley face rating would be appreciated. If you have to, rather than providing a rating of 1-2 star or negative feedback, click on the "Reply to Expert" or "Continue Conversation."
