I have a Vizio 42 inch plasma tv and one morning while watching the news the picture just pixilated and faded to black however the sound continued on. After that I powered the tv off and back on but the picture will not come back. Is this something that can be fixed or should I just buy another tv?
Optional Information: Make: Vizio Model: Vizio vp42 Already Tried: Different power cord.
is this something you are trying to fix yourself? or just need a cost on a repair?
Allan
I'd like to try and fix it myself.
ok pull the back off and take a picture with the back off the tv. Then use the paper clip button above to attach the picture. I will then edit the pictures and show you what to check.
Ok I have the back off the picture will follow soon.
ok
is there anyway i can email the photo to you? My computer will not upload the image for some reason.
if you cannot attach it??? the email it to experts@pearl.com
but i will not get it for a few hours and it is a Sunday so i might not get them till tomorrow. but i will reply when i do get them.
sounds good. In the mean time i will contniue to try to attach the image.
thanks
the image will be coming from XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX.
there is no picture here. to attach a picture click the paper clip button and a window will pop up the click browse and another window will pop up the click browse again. now you are able to select your file then click open then click ok and now click insert
when i hit ok on the second window it does nothing. its ok i have emailed the image to the email you provided.
how big are the pictures and how many?
just one image and its only 2.3mb
a image will take a while to upload to the site. if you shrink it.
it will load faster. that is why when you click ok it just site there. but we can wait for the email if you like.
figured it out! let me know if you need anymore pics.
ok on attached picture check each wire on marked connector for DC voltages to ground. us the metal part of the back of the panel as ground.
what should they read?
they wil all be different. from 15 volts up to 160
youll have to be patient with me. Im a pretty good mr. fix it but this is my first large peice of electronic and i am somwhat of a novice. What type of device should i be using to check the dc voltage?
no problem take your time.
you need a DC meter
Ok so in the strip of wire you highlighted in the picture. Starting at the top there is one blue wire and the rest are grey. The blue wire reads a ten on my meter and the very next grey wire shows nothing the 3rd grey wire down shows 130. The rest read nothing except for the bottom 2. They both make my meter read weird.
are these wires labeled on the board? the board should tell us what each wire is. let me know what it says?
Starting from the top.5vGndVaGndGndGndNcVsVs
ok on the VS your meter went weird?? what DC setting was it on?
ok run the tv for 15 mins then see attached picture and look at green marks. one you can see the heat sink on the right the other is hidden on the left. feel them one at a time and tell me if they are warm to the touch.
Buy the way I had the meter on the AC voltage setting. Once I changed it to the dc setting both vs wires showed 186 and the nc wire showed zero. Also the va wire showed 59. And the 5v showed 5.
these are good voltages. so do the heat test.
did you see what heat sink is warm?
The one on on the left that is partially hidden is real warm.
and the one on the right?
Warm but only very slightly
The other is very hot
from all we have tested this is a bad Z-SUSTAIN board. here is a link to one you can buy. be sure the numbers on your board match this one.

My tv is a Vizio and the one you sent me to is for lg. is this ok? Also which one is bad the mildly warm one or the very hot one?
they are the same just check the part number on the board and make sure it is the same. the one on the right that is warm.
