Customer Question

I have a Sharp Aquos LC-46D85U that began showing vertical rainbow strips on the right side of the screen (about a fourth of the screen just right of center). I turned it off to check all connections and it won't turn back on. OPC and Power lights blink together twice, pause, then twice again and pause...always together. Any idea if this is a pattern that identifies the problem?

Hi. I'm Steve. I'm sorry to hear about your TV. I will try my best to give you a precise and accurate answer.

The two blinks do not indicate the problem.

From what I understand, you can now no longer turn the TV on - correct?

Unplug the set for 60 seconds. Then plug it back in, do you hear a click? Then turn it on, do you hear a click and then another quick click?

Let me know.

Steve

You are correct...I cannot get it to turn on. The screen stays completely black.

There is a faint click when plugged in. The power light comes on by itself without me touching it when the cord is plugged in. After a few seconds, there is a distinct click and the OPC and power ights both come on and began the "blink, blink pause" routine. Pushing the power button again will only repeat the cycle (power light only for a few seconds and then both together, blinking...it won't turn off with all lights off). When unplugged there is one click.

Your power supply board may be faulty. This can be caused by bad capacitors on the board.

If the TV is under warranty, let me know.

If it isn't and if you are handy with a screwdriver, we can do a visual confirmation and a couple of tests.

Can you do this do you think? If so, remove the back and we'll take a look.

If you have a meter, that would also be most helpful.

If not, let me know and I'll try and give you a rough quote based on the most likely failure. Give me your zip and I'll find you a tech in your area.

Steve
