Our Samsung DLP TV keeps turning itself off after somewhere between anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours
Optional Information: Make: Samsung Model: HL-S5086W
How long have you had the set for and when did the problem occur?
When it shuts down are there any blinking lights on the front of the TV?
Have you ever replaced the lamp on the set?
We bought it new in 2006. I replaced the bulb about 6 months ago. I am not sure about the lights - I think something blinks.
Thanks for the reply.
Was the lamp that you replaced the old one with an OEM, or was it a lesser priced substitute?
Also, I really need to know which lights on the front of the TV are blinking (if any) to be able to give you an accurate answer.
The lamp was not from Samsung. I can only wait for the TV to turn itself off again to look for blinking lights.
Okay, please reply back when the set shuts down and tell me which lights are blinking (Lamp, Temp, Power, etc.).
It shut down three times tonight. Two times - no blinking lights. Third time - lamp light blinked once.
Thank you for the reply.
The Lamp light blinked once, did the Lamp light then go on and stay on, or go out?
Also, can you tell me roughly what you had paid for the Lamp when you purchased it?
I ask because there are lesser priced substitutes out there that are no good and will cause the problem you're having.
Lamp stayed out. I think we paid less than 40.00 for the bulb.
The problem is most definitely the Lamp that you have in the TV. A quality OEM replacement lamp for your set is going to be over $100. Any substitutes at the $40 price point are going to be very very cheaply made- will cause the problem you're having, as well as possibly damage your TV. You really need to go for a high quality OEM Lamp in this set. If you need further assistance or a link to the lamp, please let me know.
Please send link. Thanks for your help.
You're welcome.
The link below is to the OEM Lamp for your TV (note there is an "OEM compatible lamp" on the page as well- but stick with the OEM for longest life):

New lamp did not fix the problem. TV still shuts itself off.
I also was expecting to be billed after accepting answer; but got billed immediately on my CC.
The immediate billing of your card is simply a good faith deposit that goes into your JA account. The funds are not paid out until you click "Accept", so I am not paid the money is still sitting in your account.
If the new lamp did not fix it, then we can proceed further. Does the TV make ANY strange noises at all before it shuts down, after it shuts down, or while it's running?
