placed a dvd in the slot then closed it. dvd showed on the player then 0001 and nothing else. the tv is blank
How long have you had the player for and when did the problem occur?
Was it after a storm, or a period of non-use?
owned player for about 8 months and yes electrical storm last night with power outage

Please disconnect the player from AC power, then press and hold the power button on the player itself (not the remote), for 20 seconds. After another minute, plug the unitback in and press power once. Do you still have the same problem?
i've taken the steps suggested with no improvement
Unfortunately, this indicates that the power supply circuit inside the unit has suffered a direct failure due to the electrical storm.
Commonly the capacitors on this board will receive a surge and then fail. They cansometimes be visually verified by removing the rear of the unit and inspectingthem for bulges or leaking fluid at the top or the base of the caps.
Seeing as you are still within warranty, you should contact the retailer and you will need to ask them where the closest service location is to have the player repaired. I wish I had better news, but there are no buttons you can press to fix this and theplayer will require service at this stage.
