Thank you for posting your question on Just Answer! I will be happy to help you with this problem. Can you please give us some more information so I can better answer your questions.
-You never get picture or sound right? -How old is the unit?-Any problems with picture or sound in the past?
No never get picture or sound.... may 2004.......no
There are several things that can cause this. The most common is the convergence circuit, this circuit is responsible for lining up all the colors on the screen, however when it shorts out it will shut the set down exactly like yours is doing. This repair normally runs around $300. However this could also be caused by the horizontal circuit, deflection board or signal board. The average repair price for any of these is $400-$700 depending on exactly what is found. To determine exactly what the problem is will require troubleshooting. Some knowledge of electronics and a multimeter will be needed for this. If you have this knowledge/tools I will be more than happy to walk you through the troubleshooting of this set and determine what is wrong. Also most repairs will require good soldering skills so you will need these as well for us to repair the tv after diagnosis. If you don't have any of this then a repairman would be your next step. I am sorry to bring you the bad news on this one, you definitely have an internal failure in the set that is putting it into shut down. If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don't hesitate to ask! Please remember to press the ACCEPT button when we are finished, it is the only way I can get credit for helping you. I want you to be 100% satisfied so please, by all means ask any questions you might have on this subject. Positive feedback is always appreciated. Thank you, Tim Nolan
yes i do have a multimeter
Ok, the first thing we need to do is start testing the pico fuses in the tv to see if one is open, do you know what a pico fuse is?Tim
no sorry.....i can look on youtube
If you can get me a picture of the tv with the back off, I can mark them on the board for you. (if you can post a picture, please click the icon above, where you are typing, of the paper clip. This will allow you to upload a picture)Tim
Ok I cannot make them out there...but do you see any components that are labeled F9A04, F9a05, etc.? We are looking for pico fuses which look like a resistor but no stripes, they will be solid green or yellow most likely.Tim
no but if you can send me a picture of one so i can have a ideal on what im looking for
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=071-942&utm_source=googlepsThere is a good picture of one.Tim
ok i found one thats mark F9B01
Ok there should be 8 of those in the tv, on the tan boards...we need to find them all and check them all. Are they all good?Tim
Attachment: 2012-05-12_001552_hotmail.zip
Sorry nothing came through.Tim
Do you have a e-mail i could send you better pictrue of the bored
You can send it XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX with the subject FOR EXPERT TV...only problem is , sometimes it takes an hour or two for them to get it to me.Tim
i e-mail the pictrue to you......i only found 5 one i think is bad
What is it reading?Tim
it very 36.0 then 26,5 then low.......look for the tip of the multimeter
what do the rest of them read?Tim
the other 4 reads 00.4
Ok what is that fuse labeled on the board?Tim
F9B01
F9B01,READS LOW......F5A05...004.......F9A05..00.4........F9D01..00.4.......F9A03.....00.4
Look all over that area and the green board to the left, do you see any fluid or corrosion?Tim
NO
Ok check the resistance at pin 1 of IC9B02 to pin 3 what does it read?Tim
I DONT SEE THAT ONE
It should be near the fuse.Tim
ME BEING IN FRONT OF THE TV FROM LEFT TO RIGHT....IT READS 7.5
7.5 ohms?Tim
YES 7.5 OHM
Ok you need to unsolder that IC and pull it then check it out of circuit.Tim
I NEED TO GET ANOTHER IRON CAN WE TRY AGAIN TOMORROW
Yes no problem, I have to sign off soon anyway. I will be here all day tomorrow though, just shoot me a message.Tim
OK THANKS WHAT SHOULD THAT IC READ
It doesnt give specific readings but it should be a lot more than 8 ohms, more like 1000 ohms.Tim
OK I SEE A FEW BURN SPOT ON THE BORD IS THAT A BAD SING
Could be...are you able to get a clear picture of them?Tim
Thats pretty normal, I would not worry about that at this point.Tim
Good morning ....ok I have taken the ic off and now I get it reads low
It reads 8 ohms?Tim
No I'm not getting any reading from it
When you check the two pins, what exactly does your meter say?Tim
Pin 1 and 3 does nothing.......pin 1 and 2 reads 07.1
Pin 1 to 3 reads 0?Tim
Yes
Thats really strange, I have never seen that part go bad but if its reading 0 ohms between the 24v line and ground (pin 1 and 3) as it is then its bad. You need to replace it as well as F9B01.You need to order a 3A pico fuse (click HERE) as well as the SI-8050S (click HERE)Tim
Is that the same as F9B902
I do not see a F9B02Tim
IC9B02 is what you had me take off the mother bord last night
Yes the SI8050S is IC9B02.Tim

ON MY SI-8050S I CAN GET A READING BUT IT JUMPS AROUND AND STOP ON 7.1
If its reading 7.1 ohms or anything that low its bad and needs to be replaced.Tim
IT THATS THE PICO FUSE
Yes thats a pico.Tim
hey the guy i was going to buy the 3A pico fuse and the SI from said that it ould just blow again and he told me i need to replace both stk.......so i wanted to see what you thought about that
Both STK? They are not even tied to the convergence circuits.Tim
ok thanks i kinda thought he was trying to bs me.......is there a way i could test them
What you can do is while the regulator and the fuse are out of the tv, you can test both sides of the circuit board trace where the fuse would be to ground and see if there is a dead short there or not.The fuse is on the 24v line that goes to the STKs but I have never seen them cause these parts to go bad...unless he has seen something I have not. I know a lot but not gonna say there isnt something out there I don't know.Tim
no he havent seen anything, i never even told him what the tv was doin
What gave him the info that you needed to replace the STKs? You just told him you needed that fuse and regulator and he immediately said you need new STks?Tim
yeah that it
thats odd, I think you should test the trace of that fuse to ground and see if we have a short.Tim
he siad something made the fuse blow more likey it was the stk
Well normally yes, but you tested that regulator and found that it was shorted so that is what made the fuse blow.Tim

Hi!Just wanted to check on you and see if you got the parts yet.Tim
Not yet I should get them tomorrow
Cool! Just wanted to make sure you knew we haven't forgot about you. Let me know what happens.Tim
Ok thanks
Talk to you soon.Tim
hey how's it going..........well i got my parts put it together and still doing the same thing
did the few blow again?Tim
no
green light is coming on and going irght back off?Tim
yes ....i can hear something clicking on the tv then it turn itself off.....green light stay on about 3 or 4 sec
did you hear that clicking before too?Tim
yes
This is really odd...you have checked for fluid and cannot find any, anywhere right?TIm
yes thats right
Ok unsolder the two STK convergence ICs. then turn it on wtih them out, any change?Tim
still doing the same thing......is there any way i can test them while i have them off
Is they were bad, taking them out would allow the tv to come on.Check all the pico fuses in the tv again, did any other open?Tim
they are all testing good..........dont know what you ment by...did any other open?
Well if a fuse goes bad it "opens" and reads high ohms...like the one you replaced did.So all are reading 0 ohms including the one you replaced?Tim
they all read's 0.5......
what does your meter read when you put the two leads together?Tim
0.5
ok that just means there is some resistnace in your leads...but thats not a problem, as long as all fuses are reading the same as when you have your meter leads touching together then they are fine.Turn it on so it comes on and goes right back off...once it goes off press the MENU and INPUT buttons on the front of the tv at the same time...what is the code you get? (example 2 blinks pause 1 blinks pause 2 blinks pause 1 blink pause repeat)Tim
code 22
ok check one side of that fuse you replaced to ground (use the metal case of the tuner for ground)Tim
it read's 9.1
9.1 ohms? thats way low.Check the DC voltage there right as you turn it on.Tim
do you mean on my multimeter
Yes with your meter check the DC voltage one leg of that fuse.Tim
it jump to 5.48...on dc/ac
You should have your meter set to DC.Tim
yes ......but it dont just have dc on it ....it have ac/dc
Its about quitting time for me tonight...are you able to pick this up another day or do you want me to opt out and see if anyone is available to continue with you now?Tim
some other time is cool with me
OK shoot me a message when you are around. I am planing on working tmorrow afternoon a little...and then all next week.Tim
Goodmorning..........i took a closer look at my capacitor and pico fuse..........i did blow the same pico fuse that i replace and found a buldging capacitors
Where did you find a buldging cap? what is that cap labled?Tim
it was right beside ic9B02
its labled 35v 220uf
Do you see a lablel on the board next to it that starts with a C?Do you know if this was bubbled before you replaced the fuse?Tim
not really sure about the bubbled .....C9B06
OK pull that regulator out that you put in, and test pin 1 to pin 3 again for resistance, what does it read?Tim
the regulator reads 7.51
did you get my last messenges
Sorry, I did not.Did you check that regulator when you first got it?Tim
yes it read 7.51........i also check a regulator on the power bored it when pass 300.i think thats the one i hear click when i turn the tv on
OK I think we need to change that bad cap, the fuse and both convergence ICs.Tim
Q5A36 READS .632,....Q5H12,165.5...........Q5H11 68.0........WHAT PART NUMBER WOULD I LOOK UNDER TO ORDER THEM
What pins are you reading on Q5A36?Tim
1 and 2.........i just check it again and now i not getting a reading........it seems i get a diffrent reading every time i check it......
Theres probaby voltage on it...they all look fine.At this time it looks like you need to replace the two STK392-570 chips, the pico fuse and the capacitor that is bubbled.Tim
my stk have stk-394-250 on them......could i put diffrent stk in the tv
Use the STK394-250 number, they are cheaper.Tim
ok thanks
Let me know what happens when you get the parts.Tim
hello......what does code 23 mean
Short protect, its because that fuse is open.Tim
hello....i got my tv working it have a beautiful picture ....but water leaks from one of my lamps onto the board.....
OK that is really bad news, that is what I was afraid of from the beginning. You would need to rebuild all three those tubes and seal them with silicone so they never leak again, very bad problem to have.Tim
how would i do that
You have to pull each tube out of the tv individually, then take the metal housing holding them on off and silicone the seal between the tube and the plastic housing. There is no procedure or how to document on this as its not really a real procedure, just something we invented to fix this issue over the years. If I was with you in person I could explain it but I am not sure what I can do to explain it over the internet as there is a lot more to it than just siliconing the tubes. If you do not take it apart correctly you can destroy a tube. Tim
if you want i could give you my number that way you could talk me thought it this weekend
I am sorry, I wish I could...they will not allow us to have any contact other than on this site.I might be able instruct you through it if you can get me some good pictures throughout the process.Tim
ok i think i could do that.......
Ok, also you have the original Mitsubishi remote right? Once you put it all back together you need to align the convergence in the menu.TIm
yes i do....
OK well then you should be all set, make sure you have a good charged drill.Tim
just wanted to ask what the best silicone to use for this job
Any good all poupose silicone will be good, we normally use two tubes I think to do the job...probably get three to be safe.Tim
Attachments are only available to registered users.
OK you definitely went about it way backwards...where did all the fluid go?Tim
every where ....but i do have a old tv i could take it out of if need be......i couldnt fine all poupose silicone but i some for windows and class will that work
Ok well you need to order some coolant now.Click HERE, order 3 bottles to be safe.Your coolant didnt spill on the boards did it?Tim
no i had it pull out the way
OK well thats good news. Tim
hello...i silicon all the parts and puting it back together but i got the colors mix up i know the clear was the first one do you the order of the rest of them.......by the way thats was my problem two of them was leaking around the lens
Green should be in the middle. The blue on the right and the red on the left.Tim
i dont have a blue one ,,,,,,,,clear, red ,& green.......two of the rubber boots are mess up do you know if i can buy them...i will send you a picture of them
Sorry I didn't understand what you said you got mixed up. Aren't those all interchangeable? I have never had them off so not sure, but I think you can put them on any tube.Tim
the color lens is what i have mix up i have a red green & clear one...........the picture i just sent you was the rubber boot this picture is where they go on the tv
The green one would go in the middle. The clear one should go on the left (looking from the back)Tim
ok thanks.....what about the rubber seals can i replace them....if so where
Those seals can go in either tube, they are interchangeable.Tim
i need to replace two of the rubber seals they are warped ....is the a sit i can order them
They normally get out of shape pretty good, are they so bad they wont go in at all? I am looking for a part number now but not sure if those are available.Tim
yes i tried everything i could think of to get them back in no luck.....i even thought about putting crazy glue on them
OK let me see if I can find a part number, so far no luck.Tim
hello ...i have my tv back together and so far no leaks but the picture is blur and cant get it out in the convergence menu
Can you get me a picture of what you are seeing so I can tell the problem with the blur?Tim
its alot better now but it still have that blur picture and green some time blue outlining
Thats more out of focus than convergence I think.Have you tried the focus knobs on the focus block?Tim
it got a little bit better but the color seem to bleed
Try turning the screen voltage up JUST a HAIR.Tim
did not get any better
OK you see the wing nuts on the top of the lenses, what if you loosen those and slide left or right?Tim
hey that did it thank you.... i am 100% happy your a great Technician
Glad you got it working!Tim
