Customer replied 367 days and 22 hours ago.

No never get picture or sound.... may 2004.......no

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 22 hours ago.

There are several things that can cause this.

The most common is the convergence circuit, this circuit is responsible for lining up all the colors on the screen, however when it shorts out it will shut the set down exactly like yours is doing. This repair normally runs around $300.

However this could also be caused by the horizontal circuit, deflection board or signal board. The average repair price for any of these is $400-$700 depending on exactly what is found.

To determine exactly what the problem is will require troubleshooting. Some knowledge of electronics and a multimeter will be needed for this. If you have this knowledge/tools I will be more than happy to walk you through the troubleshooting of this set and determine what is wrong. Also most repairs will require good soldering skills so you will need these as well for us to repair the tv after diagnosis. If you don't have any of this then a repairman would be your next step.

I am sorry to bring you the bad news on this one, you definitely have an internal failure in the set that is putting it into shut down.

If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 22 hours ago.

Ok, the first thing we need to do is start testing the pico fuses in the tv to see if one is open, do you know what a pico fuse is?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 22 hours ago.

no sorry.....i can look on youtube

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 22 hours ago.

If you can get me a picture of the tv with the back off, I can mark them on the board for you. (if you can post a picture, please click the icon above, where you are typing, of the paper clip. This will allow you to upload a picture)

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 22 hours ago.

Ok I cannot make them out there...but do you see any components that are labeled F9A04, F9a05, etc.?

We are looking for pico fuses which look like a resistor but no stripes, they will be solid green or yellow most likely.

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 21 hours ago.

no but if you can send me a picture of one so i can have a ideal on what im looking for

what do the rest of them read?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 20 hours ago.

Ok what is that fuse labeled on the board?

Tim

Look all over that area and the green board to the left, do you see any fluid or corrosion?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 20 hours ago.

NO

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 20 hours ago.

Ok check the resistance at pin 1 of IC9B02 to pin 3 what does it read?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 19 hours ago.

I DONT SEE THAT ONE

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 19 hours ago.

It should be near the fuse.

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 19 hours ago.

ME BEING IN FRONT OF THE TV FROM LEFT TO RIGHT....IT READS 7.5

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 19 hours ago.

7.5 ohms?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 19 hours ago.

YES 7.5 OHM

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 19 hours ago.

Ok you need to unsolder that IC and pull it then check it out of circuit.

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 18 hours ago.

I NEED TO GET ANOTHER IRON CAN WE TRY AGAIN TOMORROW

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 18 hours ago.

Yes no problem, I have to sign off soon anyway. I will be here all day tomorrow though, just shoot me a message.

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 18 hours ago.

OK THANKS WHAT SHOULD THAT IC READ

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 18 hours ago.

It doesnt give specific readings but it should be a lot more than 8 ohms, more like 1000 ohms.

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 18 hours ago.

OK I SEE A FEW BURN SPOT ON THE BORD IS THAT A BAD SING

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 18 hours ago.

Could be...are you able to get a clear picture of them?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 18 hours ago.

graphic

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 18 hours ago.

Thats pretty normal, I would not worry about that at this point.

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 6 hours ago.

Good morning ....ok I have taken the ic off and now I get it reads low

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 6 hours ago.

It reads 8 ohms?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 6 hours ago.

No I'm not getting any reading from it

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 6 hours ago.

When you check the two pins, what exactly does your meter say?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 6 hours ago.

Pin 1 and 3 does nothing.......pin 1 and 2 reads 07.1

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 6 hours ago.

Pin 1 to 3 reads 0?

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 6 hours ago.

Yes

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 6 hours ago.

Thats really strange, I have never seen that part go bad but if its reading 0 ohms between the 24v line and ground (pin 1 and 3) as it is then its bad.

You need to replace it as well as F9B01.

You need to order a 3A pico fuse (click HERE) as well as the SI-8050S (click HERE)

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 5 hours ago.

Is that the same as F9B902

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 5 hours ago.

I do not see a F9B02

Tim

Customer replied 367 days and 5 hours ago.

IC9B02 is what you had me take off the mother bord last night

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 367 days and 5 hours ago.

Yes the SI8050S is IC9B02.

ON MY SI-8050S I CAN GET A READING BUT IT JUMPS AROUND AND STOP ON 7.1

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 366 days and 23 hours ago.

If its reading 7.1 ohms or anything that low its bad and needs to be replaced.

Tim

Customer replied 366 days and 23 hours ago.

IT THATS THE PICO FUSE

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 366 days and 23 hours ago.

Yes thats a pico.

Tim

Customer replied 364 days and 22 hours ago.

hey the guy i was going to buy the 3A pico fuse and the SI from said that it ould just blow again and he told me i need to replace both stk.......so i wanted to see what you thought about that

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 364 days and 8 hours ago.

Both STK? They are not even tied to the convergence circuits.

Tim

Customer replied 363 days and 23 hours ago.

ok thanks i kinda thought he was trying to bs me.......is there a way i could test them

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 363 days and 22 hours ago.

What you can do is while the regulator and the fuse are out of the tv, you can test both sides of the circuit board trace where the fuse would be to ground and see if there is a dead short there or not.

The fuse is on the 24v line that goes to the STKs but I have never seen them cause these parts to go bad...unless he has seen something I have not. I know a lot but not gonna say there isnt something out there I don't know.

Tim

Customer replied 363 days and 22 hours ago.

no he havent seen anything, i never even told him what the tv was doin

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 363 days and 22 hours ago.

What gave him the info that you needed to replace the STKs? You just told him you needed that fuse and regulator and he immediately said you need new STks?

Tim

Customer replied 363 days and 22 hours ago.

yeah that it

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 363 days and 22 hours ago.

thats odd, I think you should test the trace of that fuse to ground and see if we have a short.

Tim

Customer replied 363 days and 22 hours ago.

he siad something made the fuse blow more likey it was the stk

Accepted Answer

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 363 days and 22 hours ago.

Well normally yes, but you tested that regulator and found that it was shorted so that is what made the fuse blow.

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

hey how's it going..........well i got my parts put it together and still doing the same thing

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

did the few blow again?

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

no

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

green light is coming on and going irght back off?

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

yes ....i can hear something clicking on the tv then it turn itself off.....green light stay on about 3 or 4 sec

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

did you hear that clicking before too?

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

yes

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

This is really odd...you have checked for fluid and cannot find any, anywhere right?

TIm

Customer replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

yes thats right

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

Ok unsolder the two STK convergence ICs. then turn it on wtih them out, any change?

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

still doing the same thing......is there any way i can test them while i have them off

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 21 hours ago.

Is they were bad, taking them out would allow the tv to come on.

Check all the pico fuses in the tv again, did any other open?

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

they are all testing good..........dont know what you ment by...did any other open?

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

Well if a fuse goes bad it "opens" and reads high ohms...like the one you replaced did.

So all are reading 0 ohms including the one you replaced?

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

they all read's 0.5......

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

what does your meter read when you put the two leads together?

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

0.5

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

ok that just means there is some resistnace in your leads...but thats not a problem, as long as all fuses are reading the same as when you have your meter leads touching together then they are fine.

Turn it on so it comes on and goes right back off...once it goes off press the MENU and INPUT buttons on the front of the tv at the same time...what is the code you get? (example 2 blinks pause 1 blinks pause 2 blinks pause 1 blink pause repeat)

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

code 22

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

ok check one side of that fuse you replaced to ground (use the metal case of the tuner for ground)

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

it read's 9.1

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 20 hours ago.

9.1 ohms? thats way low.

Check the DC voltage there right as you turn it on.

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 19 hours ago.

do you mean on my multimeter

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 19 hours ago.

Yes with your meter check the DC voltage one leg of that fuse.

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 19 hours ago.

it jump to 5.48...on dc/ac

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 19 hours ago.

You should have your meter set to DC.

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 19 hours ago.

yes ......but it dont just have dc on it ....it have ac/dc

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 19 hours ago.

Its about quitting time for me tonight...are you able to pick this up another day or do you want me to opt out and see if anyone is available to continue with you now?

Tim

some other time is cool with me

Picture

OK shoot me a message when you are around. I am planing on working tmorrow afternoon a little...and then all next week.

Tim

Customer replied 359 days and 7 hours ago.

Goodmorning..........i took a closer look at my capacitor and pico fuse..........i did blow the same pico fuse that i replace and found a buldging capacitors

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 359 days and 6 hours ago.

Where did you find a buldging cap? what is that cap labled?
Tim

Customer replied 356 days and 20 hours ago.

it was right beside ic9B02

Customer replied 356 days and 20 hours ago.

its labled 35v 220uf

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 356 days and 17 hours ago.

Do you see a lablel on the board next to it that starts with a C?

Do you know if this was bubbled before you replaced the fuse?

Tim

Customer replied 355 days and 19 hours ago.

not really sure about the bubbled .....C9B06

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 355 days and 8 hours ago.

OK pull that regulator out that you put in, and test pin 1 to pin 3 again for resistance, what does it read?

Tim

Customer replied 354 days and 20 hours ago.

the regulator reads 7.51

Customer replied 349 days and 23 hours ago.

did you get my last messenges

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 349 days and 23 hours ago.

Sorry, I did not.

Did you check that regulator when you first got it?

Tim

Customer replied 349 days and 23 hours ago.

yes it read 7.51........i also check a regulator on the power bored it when pass 300.i think thats the one i hear click when i turn the tv on

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 349 days and 23 hours ago.

OK I think we need to change that bad cap, the fuse and both convergence ICs.

Tim

Customer replied 349 days and 23 hours ago.

Q5A36 READS .632,....Q5H12,165.5...........Q5H11 68.0........WHAT PART NUMBER WOULD I LOOK UNDER TO ORDER THEM

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 349 days and 23 hours ago.

What pins are you reading on Q5A36?

Tim

Customer replied 349 days and 23 hours ago.

1 and 2.........i just check it again and now i not getting a reading........it seems i get a diffrent reading every time i check it......

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 349 days and 23 hours ago.

Theres probaby voltage on it...they all look fine.

At this time it looks like you need to replace the two STK392-570 chips, the pico fuse and the capacitor that is bubbled.

Tim

Customer replied 349 days and 22 hours ago.

my stk have stk-394-250 on them......could i put diffrent stk in the tv

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 349 days and 22 hours ago.

Use the STK394-250 number, they are cheaper.

Tim

Customer replied 349 days and 22 hours ago.

ok thanks

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 349 days and 22 hours ago.

Let me know what happens when you get the parts.

Tim

Customer replied 348 days and 22 hours ago.

hello......what does code 23 mean

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 348 days and 22 hours ago.

Short protect, its because that fuse is open.

Tim

Customer replied 336 days and 20 hours ago.

hello....i got my tv working it have a beautiful picture ....but water leaks from one of my lamps onto the board.....

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 336 days and 20 hours ago.

OK that is really bad news, that is what I was afraid of from the beginning. You would need to rebuild all three those tubes and seal them with silicone so they never leak again, very bad problem to have.

Tim

Customer replied 336 days and 20 hours ago.

how would i do that

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 336 days and 20 hours ago.

You have to pull each tube out of the tv individually, then take the metal housing holding them on off and silicone the seal between the tube and the plastic housing.

There is no procedure or how to document on this as its not really a real procedure, just something we invented to fix this issue over the years. If I was with you in person I could explain it but I am not sure what I can do to explain it over the internet as there is a lot more to it than just siliconing the tubes. If you do not take it apart correctly you can destroy a tube.

Tim

Customer replied 336 days and 20 hours ago.

if you want i could give you my number that way you could talk me thought it this weekend

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 336 days and 19 hours ago.

I am sorry, I wish I could...they will not allow us to have any contact other than on this site.

I might be able instruct you through it if you can get me some good pictures throughout the process.

Tim

Customer replied 336 days and 19 hours ago.

ok i think i could do that.......

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 336 days and 19 hours ago.

Ok, also you have the original Mitsubishi remote right? Once you put it all back together you need to align the convergence in the menu.

TIm

Customer replied 336 days and 19 hours ago.

yes i do....

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 336 days and 19 hours ago.

OK well then you should be all set, make sure you have a good charged drill.

Tim

Customer replied 335 days and 22 hours ago.

just wanted to ask what the best silicone to use for this job

Picture
Expert:  Tim Nolan replied 335 days and 22 hours ago.

Any good all poupose silicone will be good, we normally use two tubes I think to do the job...probably get three to be safe.

Tim

Customer replied 335 days and 21 hours ago.
