how do we continue with troubleshooting mike g?
Start by trying to force the back lights on:
Have the back off the Tv.
Unplug the Tv from power.
Disconnect the multi pin power harness that goes from the Main board (on the left with all the AV In/Out jacks) to the Power/IP board (on the right has the AC Power plug).
Now plug the power cord into the Tv.
Do the backlights come on? Stay on until you unplug the Tv?

ok, tried that and i still get the clicking noise. i see that there is a small slender fuse located almost in the middle of the set; does this have any bearing?
"a small slender fuse located almost in the middle of the set" not sure what you are referring to.
Next test-
Re-connect the multi-pin power harness that you had disconnected.
Disconnect the ribbon cable from the TCON board (labeled "T" in the picture).
Apply power.
Report results.
i unhooked m first and now t; still have clicking when hitting power button. upon plugging in set blue light flashes and flashes like normal when activated but clicking thereafter
Last test-
Re-connect all the internal connectors.
Disconnect the two small connectors near the "I" in the picture.
Plug in power.
Report back.
nothing, still intermittent clicking
It's either the Power board or the Main board. I would 90% suspect the Power board first:

Main board has different versions depending on version printed on side of Tv:

should i buy both and replace?
Na, just try the power board. That should fix it. If not, then get the Main.
