Projection TV TheaterView HD. The green color is creating

Customer Question

Projection TV TheaterView HD. The green color is creating a double image and is wavy with an exageration to the right from mid screen to the top. Not able to correct with convergenge adjustment. Can you identify the problem and part needed to repair.

Optional Information:
Make: Toshiba
Model: TheaterView HD

Already Tried:
Convergence adjustments helped align colors to line up with green, but center controls, 2, mid and 8 cannot be moved right enough to meet the green. Green cross is also distorted, waving to the right. Reduced green light to be able to watch tv without the double image. Green lamp still on.

Hi Thank you for that information.
When you can no longer get the colors to alighn properly using the TV buttons the two convergance ICs need replacement along with their respective resistors.
The parts cost a total of less that $80.00 and about an hour of labor but needs to be done by a qualified TV repair Technician.
Here is a free website that you can use to locate a Tech in your area to do this for you.

Don't think I agree that it is the convergence ICs as there is no convergence control for the green color. The remote convergence controls only the red and blue.

Hi,
Is the entire screen green?
Thank you Tech Michael

Customer replied406 days and 13 hours ago.

No. The other colors are working properly. I removed the front cover and found three color controls for the red, blue and green lamps. I turned the green control to eliminate it so I can watch a clear picture. Of course, without the green, the picture is orangy and a grayish color appears for scenes where a lot of green applies, like a golf course or baseball field. Blue, white and red images are clear and perfect. Anything with a green color or hue is off color.

Hi,
The trouble is infact the convergance ICs.
Thats one of the symptoms assiciated with this symptom.
There could also be other issues that would cause this, but from your description, thats how I , in most cases resolve the issue when I make the repairsSmile
If you have any further questions I will be here for you.
Thank you
Tech Michael

One more clue. With the green removed the picure is clear, but still slightly distorted to the right. When I look at what should be a straight line from top to bottom, the top of the line is off line to the right, growing progressively worse from mid screen towards the top. The problem is not clearly evident unless you are looking ata a straight line.

Hi, Thank you for that as well, there can be also a bad capacitor on the power supply, that would also cause distortion from left to right and or top to bottom.
That part can be identified as an electrolytic can type component with a bulging or leaking top .
They should normally look flat on top.
But still the that would not cause the green issue, that is a convergance problem only correctable by having the convergance ICs replaced along with the resistors along side of the ICs.
Its an easy repair for an experienced tech but many people attemt this on their own and create more harm than good, as this requires good equipment and much skill with respect to slodering and de soldering of the components so as not to damage the circuit board.
Thanks
Tehc Michael
