Hi! Thanks for using Just Answer, I am Tim, happy to help you today.
Do you have cable, satellite or antenna?
We do have cable.
Do you have a cable box or does the cable go straight from the wall to the tv?
OK so you use the Sony remote to change channels then, is this correct?
OK use that remote to go into the menu and run the auto channel scan again, this is what we need to do first.
In the menu under channel setup.
Go under settings.
What do you see listed under settings?
That sounds like you are in the picture menu instead of the setup menu.
Do you have the full model number for your tv?
Ok but I need the actual model number off the back of the tv. (sometimes on the side)
Ok when you first push the MENU button on the tv, you should see these options: Picture, sound, screen, channel, parental lock, setup.
You are not seeing this?
There only four items: photo, music, video, settings under MENU
Are you able to scroll left and right?
Ok try that, what happens?
Ok when you go to SETTINGS, what all do you see?
You have seen it but do not see it now? Thats the problem, we have to be able to get to the channel section.
OK do you see the auto channel scan now?
OK go to that and run it.
It should finish faster than that, let me know when its done.
Do you have other tvs in the home hooked to cable?
Ok well there are two things you could have here, first is a bad tuner in the tv and second is a problem on the cable line. What I would suggest first is having the cable company come out and check the line. If they say it is good, then we are looking at a bad tuner in the tv and it will need t obe replaced. This type of repair generally runs around $350-400.
Yes, if the tv is less than 12 months old it is under warranty and Sony will repair it free of charge.
