We have a Sharp LC-19SB25U television. The cable box spontaneously rebooted, and now the picture is black and white and definitely not high definition when we select HD channels. The picture has vertical bands that look like Fourier aliasing, as if the television has the wrong resolution. I have done Reset under Menu/Picture and Menu/Setup and I have done Menu/Setup/EZ Setup, and these do not solve the problem. The cable box is connected to the television through Input 1, and the television is set to Input 1. I have tried all options under VIEW MODE. Is there something else that I should do?
Optional Information: Make: Sharp Model: LC-19SB25U Already Tried: Every VIEW MODE, every INPUT, every AV MODE. MENU/PICTURE/RESET, MENU/SETUP/RESET, MENU/SETUP/EZ START

-If you push the MENU button on the tv, does the menu show in front or behind the bands?-How old is the unit?- Do you have this problem while watching all different devices hooked to this television? (DVD player, cable, satellite, game counsel, etc.)
When I press the MENU button the menu appears in front of the bands. The unit is three or four years old. It is certainly not five years old.We don't have anything other than cable to connect to this television.
OK while the cable box is on, unplug it from the wall, let it sit 5 mins and plug it back in. Does anything change?
Tim
I unplugged thee cable box while it was on, let it sit 7 minutes, and plugged it back in. I waited for the full boot process, then turned on the television. No change, no improvement.
Do you have anything else in the house you can hook to the tv? (dvd, game system,) that we can use to test?
The television has SVGA input for a computer. I can connect the other laptop to it, and will start the procedure.
OK good deal, let me know if we get a picture from the laptop or if we get vertical bands?
The computer display appears normal when seen on the television.
Ok then we have a bad cable box for sure.
At this point you are going to need to call customer service for the cable company to get the box replaced.
