I have a DVD Home Theater System model No. HTS3555/37 and the DVD player times-out when I try to play something. I have to unplug the machine for a minute and turn it on again over and over until it plays. What can I do to fix the problem? Or, where can I take it for repair?
Optional Information: Make: Phillips Model: HTS3555/37 Already Tried: I have unplug it for a minute, re-plug it and started it again over and over until it starts. Sometimes it does not.
How long have you had the system for and when did the problem first occur?
Additionally, does the system actually start playing the DVD (as indicated by the readout on the display), but simply not show a picture on the TV?
I purchased it in either 2005 or 2006.The display lights up and it stops (time out). It seems to happen when the player starts the DVD or CD. The display goes blank and the unit will not respond until I unplug it and wait a minute to plug it in again (re-boot). Then I try it again. This started a month ago when I tried to play a DVD. After re-booting it would start up the next time. Now, it will not respond after rebooting over and over again. It times out for CDs now, also. Sometimes I have to wait a while to try again.
This indicates that the power supply circuit inside the unit has a failure. One of the voltages has dropped and is not supplying the initial startup current required to start up, and keepo the unit playing. The fact that you're unplugging it and plugging it back in, is resetting the power supply. This is due to often a failing regulator IC, one or more failed capacitors, or a short in the power supply itself. The average cost for this type of repair is between $1250-$175 parts and labor, which may make repairs cost prohibitive.
