Customer Question

LNT4053HX/XAA TV's channel change up seems to be stuck on change UP. I was hoping that I could either disconnect the switch circuit board from the mother board and just use the remote, but the IR sensor plugs into the switch circuit board and one bus of wires goes from the circuit board to the mother board. I was also hoping the some physical manipulation of the switch circuit board would fix it, but no. I assume that my only alternative is Samsung repair? Any other home brew fixes that might work?

Optional Information:
Make: Samsung
Model: LNT4053HX/XAA

Already Tried:
have opened it up. Tried disconnecting the switch circuit board from the motherboard, but won't work cause the IR sensor is connected to the switch circuit board. Did some physical prying on the switch circuit board, but no change.

Hi!

There are no real workarounds for this problem, the board is best to be replaced. However, since you are more than capable of getting into the tv and finding the board, I am positive you can change it yourself. You will not need Samsung to repair it for you, you can just order the part yourself.

The part runs about $30 and is part number BN96-04809D. I would recommend http://www.encompassparts.com/ or http://www.shopjimmy.com/ to order it.

If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Please remember to press the ACCEPT button when we are finished, it is the only way I can get credit for helping you. I want you to be 100% satisfied so please, by all means ask any questions you might have on this subject. Positive feedback is always appreciated.

Thank you,
Tim Nolan

Thanks for the tip on the part#. Encompass seems to indicate that the correct part for my model, Samsung LNT4053HX/XAA, is BN96-04809C instead of BN96-04809D. Does that seem correct to you?

The number at the end doesnt matter, both of those are the same part so you will be good to go with that one.

Just to followup with the success story in case other Samsung LCD owners out there experience this same problem which I think must be a design bug in the TVs.

I ordered the replacement circuit board from PartStore.com
Samsung BN96-04809D ASSY BOARD P-FUNCTIO $31.96 1 $31.96
Sub Total: $31.96
Shipping/Handling: $5.95
Tax: $2.80
GRAND TOTAL: $40.71

It arrived in about 5 business days and it took about 20 minutes to replace. Even though this part also contains the little board with the IR sensor and the long cable that runs to the mother board, I only replaced the circuit board which is directly behind the physical switches on the TV. It fixed the problem beautifully.

The scariest thing about fixing this problem was the amount of prying pressure I had to use to remove the old circuit board. It is stuck to a metal strip by some very sticky adhesive tape. The new board comes with an adhesive surface. I did have to scrape off some of the old tape from the metal strip before literally sticking the new board back into place.

I love my Samsung TV, but it sure has been a problem child. I had to fix, "TV is stuck in a loop" start up problems by replacing the capacitors on the power supply board about 2 years ago (1/2 year beyond warranty). Just last week I got notification of the closing of a class action suit which offered to pay my repair expenses for the capacitor problem. I expect to get notification of another class action suit on the Channel Change Stuck problem in 1 or 2 years from now.

I sure hope this is the end of it.......

Thank you Tim for giving me the advise and confidence to fix it myself.

Randy
