Thank you for posting your question on Just Answer! I will be happy to help you with this problem. Can you please give us some more information so I can better answer your questions.

-How often does this happen?

-When it shuts off, what do you have to do to get it back on? (simply hit power button, unplug, wait, etc.)

-How old is the tv?

Please give me this information and I will be happy to assist you further.
Thank you,
Tim Nolan

Purchased Dec 2006

It will go from Blue Light On to Red Light Off ( hear the audible click off ). To turn back on I press the power switch.

Sometimes it will happen once a day , sometimes does not happen for several days,.. other times 3 or 4 times on same program.

Seems repeatable on a recorded show or rental ( on-demand cable ) it will shut off . I turn back on , rewind to where it cut off and it will cut off in the same spot.

Ok the main problem here is that the tv is so inconsistent that it is going to be impossible to troubleshoot.

We have see any one of 4 circuit boards in the tv cause odd shutting off like this. The most common is the main digital board, the second most common is the sub digital. Also we have seen the control board and sustain board cause this. However figuring out which one is bad in your tv would be just about impossible at this point. Reason being that the test would need to be done at the exact second the tv shuts off in order to see what board is triggering the shut down. Since it does it once in a while you would have to be testing it all day. Now if it gets worse and starts doing it every min or so that would be a lot easier. In that case you would be normally looking at around $300-400 for repair.

There is one repeatable pattern which is consistent just to be sure and would be interested in your reply and then one question

If I DVR a show or rent on Demand it is almost guarantee to happen but not sure which part of the show ( usually the best part though ). When it happens it will always happen on that exact same spot . As though a certain signal triggers it

If watching a normal TV Cable broadcast it rarely happens

Looking at a $300-$400 repair I have to balance age against cost of new set. I appreciate your honesty. Any brand standout in your opinion these days that you would recommend in the 42-46inch range ?.

Thanks Tim T

Is it something like a bright scene change or it changes to fast action or something like that?

Personally I would agree with you, a new tv is looking much better at this point when you factor in how cheap they are these days. I would buy a Sony LCD hands down, no question.

When I think about it your question makes alot of sense .. it usually happens on a bright screen change or some kind of explosion action scene . ( like the best part of the movie ) . Does that signal anything to you ?

note : thanks for the tip , been looking at Sony

Kinda but just brings more bad news, that would most likely be a digital board or sustain...thats more around the $400 range.

If you have any other questions, let me know...happy to help.
