I am trying to connect my new Roku with my older, non-HD TV.

Customer Question

I am trying to connect my new Roku with my older, non-HD TV. I am at step 2 and I have a blank screen. The instructions say : "Blank Screen? If your TV does not display a Roku screen, make sure your TV input matches the physical connection used to connect your Roku player. Press the input button (also called Source) on your TV or TV remote to cycle through the various video inputs available until you see a Roku screen."

Problem is,. my remote has no Input button nor does the TV, so what can I do?

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your problem. I will be happy to help but need more information first:

1. What is the model number of the Tv?

2. What port on the Tv are you plugging the Roku into (color or label)?

3. What model Roku are you hooking up?

Please reply here to this topic, I am here to help.

Thank You
Mike

Model # = F27672ET

Im plugging into "video input" on the back of my TV....yellow, orange, and white

It is the "Roku 2 XZD streaming player"
Expert:  Mike G. replied 3 years ago.

Ok, thanks.

You want to match the colored cables on both ends:

The Roku should have plugs- Yellow for video & Red/White for audio.

The Tv should also have plugs- Yellow for video & Red/White for audio.

Now the Tv needs to be put onto "video input". Sounds like you don't have the original Tv remote??? If the remote or the Tv does not have an INPUT or SOURCE button on it then you need to get creative-

Try channel down until you get past CH 3, CH 2, then one more down should be INPUT.

Or

You may have to get a remote or Universal remote that has the INPUT button.

No, the roku does not have colored plugs.

I cannot find model "2 XZD" . Do you mean 2 HD? XD? XS?

What plugs does it have?

This page shows the plugs on a Roku 2 http://support.roku.com/entries/20256941-how-do-i-set-up-my-roku-player

Oops, sorry; the roku is the Roku 2 XD streaming player. It ahs a plug for an hdmi cable, a/v out, and dc in.
Expert:  Mike G. replied 3 years ago.

AV out Yellow (video) Red/White (audio).

Match the colors on both ends.

But the plugs are only colored on ONE end. The other end goes into the a/v port on the back of the roku.

I tried the channel down thing, and it didn't work.

I *do* have a universal remote. How should I use it, what do I do?
