Have TV Questions? Ask a TV Technician
Hello and welcome to JustAnswer! I am Pete, a TV expert, and I'm happy to assist with your question today.
How long have you had your Sansui TV?
If you press the menu button on the remote control, can you still see the on-screen menu?
We have had the TV not quite two years. The menu does not show up.
Sansui TV 325 is the model.
There are three possible causes of this problem:1. The power supply to the backlight inverter has failed. Solution - the power supply circuitry inside your TV will need to be repaired or replaced. Estimated cost: $150-2002. The backlight inverter has failed. Solution - the backlight inverter inside your TV will need to be repaired or replaced. Estimated cost: $150-2003. The backlight has failed. If the backlight has failed, the cost of replacing it would be almost as much as a new TV set, so these repairs are not normally carried out.
Can you try shining a bright light on your TV screen in a dark room to see if you can make out the faint image of a picture?
If you can see a faint image, then the backlight or its associated power supply circuitry has failed.
If there is no picture visible, then the TV will require electronic testing to determine the exact cause of the fault.
Faults are often found on the power supply board in these LCD sets.
Things to look for are burnt brown hot spots on the circuit boards, capacitors with leaking/bulging top or seals. Loose wires and connectors, or blown fuses.
