You didn't have to remove the rear cover to do this. If you have your owners manual, the directions are on page 13.

Once you have done these steps, just put it back together, but be sure that the lamp door is very securly tightened, or the set will turn on, then shut down, and cause the front red indicator t blink in 3 flash sequences.

well, so far, so good! instructions didn't say front panel is friction-fitted, and i was afraid of breaking something. i'm used to working on carriers, switches and routers with a smattering of fiber-muxers; & some of that stuff is outright fragile. thanks!
