I have a BD-P1400 player. I put in a new disc and all I get is a rectangle with nine dots inside that eluminate in turn and the counter stays at zero. To check that this was not just a faulty disc I put in another Blueray disc with the same result. What is the problem

Hi there and welcome to Just Answer. Thanks for asking your question.
I would do a firmware update. This will reset the unit and also make it compatible with newer Blu Ray discs.
The firmware is available on Samsung's web site here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_mdl_name=BD-P1400
You will find two files dated December 2008. The small on is the instructions to make the upgrade CD.
I will be here if you have a follow up comment or question.
