Samsung HL-P5063W. My tv shut down after a loud buzzing or humming noise. When I turn it back on, I hear sound for a few seconds along with the loud humming noise but I don't see a picture. Then the tv shuts off. I installed a new lamp and still have the same problem.
Hi chancho208,
Thank you for using Just Answer.
Please post a bit more information so that we can answer this best.
Do you still have that loud buzzing/humming noise?
Have you checked to be sure that the lamp is secured correctly and that the door is closed completely?
Did the new lamp ever give you a good picture?
Are you still getting the audio for only a few seconds?
Have you tried other inputs for the TV?
Is the input you are using a direct (composite, component, s-video or HDMI) one?
Is the input you are using thru the tuner with a coax cable?
Thank you for your patience.

I still have the loud humming noise. The Samsung customer support says it sounds like an assembly fan because the DLP wheel has a more high pitched noise when it is defective. The lamp is secure and the door is completely closed. The new lamp did not ever give a picture but the old one stopped giving a picture also. I don't think it is the lamp because this loud noise sure does sound like a fan. I am still getting the audio for just a few seconds. I have not tried other inputs. I am using the DVI input from a directv receiver. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hi chanco208,
From the information you have provided the most likely problem is the ballast and/or the power supply to the ballast.
From the age of the TV we would be guessing that it's probably the ballast.
That noise is very common when the ballast is going or gone.
Do you have an electronic background and wish to make this a DIY project?
If so, we would recommend that you obtain the manual before going too much further into the TV.
You can obtain the manual here -

Please let me know if you would like more information and/or clarification.
I don't think I told you the age of the tv. I think it is 4 or 5 years old. Do you still think it sounds like the power supply or the ballast? Also, is the service manual different from the manual that came with the tv? I have that manual already. Thanks.
Yes, I knew the age of the TV from the model number. I'll put a number on it as- "I'm 75% sure that the problem is there." The TV would normally be tested to confirm.
You don't normally get that noise with too much else on that TV.
The service manual is the manual that a technician will reference in order to troubleshoot and repair the TV. It is not the manual that came with the TV.
We have seen some customers with electronic backgrounds, some soldering skills and a few basic instruments make this a sucessfull DIY project. However, it's definitely not for everyone.
