I own a 50 in samsung HLP5063W. About two weeks ago it started making a cyclic hum right after shut down. It has progressed to a constant hum whenever the set is on. Picture quality is good and the bulb was changed about a year and a half ago.

The color wheel spins at about 9000 RPM and they are know for having problems with the bearings failing. This is causing the noise. The new color wheels have a different bearing in the color wheel which should last longer. This repair will cost about $400 for the part and labor. can i do this repair myself, and is it going to cause bigger problems if i keep using the set with the problem ?
Using the TV will not cause more of a problem. It will get to a point where it will be so noisey you will not be able to stand it, or the picture will have problems and the set may just shut down when the safety circuitry detects the problem. There are customers that have attempted the repair to save money. If you feel you are qualified you can click here for information on how it is done. I have also posted a video that shows the process. I have gotten TV sets in from customers that have attempted the repair and failed. Some repair shops will not work on a TV that the consumer worked on and others will charge more.
