Hi Dan: The sensor doesn't work. It was tested and I was told that I could not replace the sensor but needed to replace the circuit board, ie panel board? So, a friend took the front of tv off and we saw 3 different #'s and the one that seemed to fit best was 23546796. Meaning, it had the right amount of #'s on it. The other #'s on the panel board were PDO 178A4 and XXXXXXXXX was another # XXXXX it. I am 75 yrs old and tired of getting up to change channels and sound every half hour. I miss my remote. help

Dan: You can't find the part so I would like to close this session. I don't want to pay the money as I am not satisfied with the answer because I knew that myself. Let me know this is closed so I can delete my files. thank you.

Expert's Answer

I apologize that my answer did not appear. That has happened on a couple occasions and I was not aware of it. After some extensive searching, I have come up with the fact that the number you listed was a cabinet number since it begins with 2354. What I have found are two parts, one is the remote circuit board and the other is the remote sensor which is located behind the main screen, not the front panel. I have listed the parts below with links to suppliers. I can also upload the Service Manual for you to download for whoever will perform the work.
The remote pc board assembly is #23786457 and is available from partstore.com or encompassparts.com.
The remote control sensor itself is #23000852 and is available from the same sources listed above.

If you need additional information or need me to upload the manual, please let me know.

My friend is going to upload the manual as I couldn't figure it out. Also I don't want to pay 208.00 dllrs for the panel bd and he is going to see if he can just put the sensor in and order that for a couple bucks. If he orders it, no matter what, I will accept your work. Give me a few days. thanks.

Neither one of us could figure out how to upload that manual. Can you just upload the page where it shows the sensor and send it to me please? Then I will accept your work.

My apologies, I must have accidentally deleted the file when I was "cleaning house" and getting rid of extra files on my storage. Here is the new link:

They want me to log in etc. Too involved. Same as the other link you sent. I don't understand it. If I register and log in, will I have to pay them?

I know there are a lot of ads on that page and it can be confusing, however, all you need to do is click on the link again and when the page appears, on the left side there is a rectangular yellow outlined box that says "Click here to start download". All you do is click there and download the file, you do not need to login.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi Dan: Well no luck for me. They sent the part you said to order but it was a metal thingie and we wanted the red light thingie. So that was for nothing. Went to Radio Shack and tried one of theirs but it wasn't infra red and didn't work. Will try another store in the city.

Expert's Answer

OK, I have some clarification, correction and additional information as follows:

  • The part # XXXXX is indeed the Remote Control Sensor. This is the part that takes the signal from the handheld remote control and sends it to the TV control circuitry. It is a solder-in Integrated Circuit infra-red receiver.
  • The "red light" is nothing more than an LED indicator (#23358522) that lights if the TV is receiving the remote signal. This part could be completely removed from the TV and the remote would still function (in an otherwise normally working TV). In other words, the "red thingie" has nothing to do with making the remote work.
  • I listed the wrong number for the complete Remote Sensor Board. The correct number is 23762087 and should be available from the sources I listed earlier for around $10 USD plus shipping.
If you need any further information, please let me know.
