LG 26LC2D ...My remote doesnt work. Seems to be the IR sensor on the TV itself as the cable remote wont control the tv itself. Is this something I can fix myself ?
HelloCustomer welcome to Just Answer. It's always tricky to find the cause of something like that. It does not mean the TV IR sensor is faulty. Some TV (LCD and plasma) can cause IR interference for other remotes. Try to block the screen with a cardboard, if the problem persist we can try something else. If you have a camcorder or digital camera that have a dark scene mode, you can use this in a completely dark room with the remote. When pressing the button you should see in the viewer the remote acting like a flashlight when pressing on of the button. If you see it, the remote work, if you don't see it, perhaps it work and you equipment is not sensible enough. You can bring your remote to a store that sell LG TV, and try it there on display TV's. It's possible that the cable remote don't have the internal signal for that particular model of TV. If all this is check and the TV is not suspect, i would recommend you get to a repair shop instead of doing it yourself. It might only be the IR sensor, but it might also be something else surrounding that part.
Well both remotes were working fine until recently. So I suspect its the TV. Any idea what something like this would cost and/or if its a common problem ? The TV is only 2 years old.
I see, then it's probably the TV. If only the LED IR detector is faulty, this would cost 50 cent in part. Most is going to be labor. It's not that big of a job for something used to unsolder/solder tiny part, so it should not pass $70 all included. Of course going to a small repair shop cost less than in a big one. If something larger need to be replaced is should not be a part costing more than $20. It is very uncommon to happen (only saw this on set of 12 year or more). 2, year old is usually a good date for having a capacitor go bad (that don't cost much either). BTW, you can also try to unplug the TV for 1 or 2 hours. It might only be some logic confusion that such a reset could resolve.Martin39893.834368287
