Customer Question

stuck in 3rd gear limp mode. fuses and fluid are ok.
JA: Have you checked the vehicle's manual yet?
Customer: no not yet but i doubt it would cover a transmission shift problem
JA: What is the model/year of your Mazda?
Customer: 2005 Mazda 6 with the 2.3 4 cyl
JA: Are you fixing your Mazda2 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I probably will. I'm a mechanic, just not real versed in auto transmissions.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Not that I can think of

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

There are many things that will cause a transmission to go into limp in and it will take some testing to determine what is going on. The trans goes into limp in when the trans controller sees a failure that will prevent proper operation and sets fault codes.

There are a handful of things that could be going on ranging from solenoids, speed sensors, wiring, internal trans issues and even the trans controller itself. The first step in diagnosing the problem will be to use a scan tool or code reader to see what fault codes are setting and testing can be done from there.
