Customer Question

At 55 to 80 mph the engine races for about 1 minute (or less) and then the transmission kicks in hard. Never had this problem before.
JA: When was your transmission fluid last checked?
Customer: When I had an oil change 3k miles ago. I have a 2001 grand marquis
JA: Are you fixing your 80 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I took it in to my mechanic, I needed back-up info from you. 102K miles on the odometer. I do not know what an 80 is.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I have had the car maintained on a regular basis, some rust.

Hi, I'm Ron and I will be helping you today.
Stand by for a moment while I prepare your answer.

Expert:  rpmdiag replied 26 days ago.

Here’s the sequence of events Ifollow:

Check fluid level and color.Make appropriate repairs.

Check shift solenoids with a scan tool in bidirectional mode if applicable. Shift solenoids are inside the transmission and this is the easiest way to check them.

Drop pan and inspect for excessive metal shavings inside pan.

Check valve body and clutches visually.

Hopefully you may not have to go this far, maybe you just were a bit low on fluid.
