I installed a radio in my car and now I'm having transmission issues
JA: Have you replaced the transmission's filter lately?
Customer: No but the gears are not shifting correctly
JA: What is the model/year of your Kia?
Customer: 2011 Kia Optima lx
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes and nothing yet
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: Were you able to read my original post?
JA: No. I'm the Kia Mechanic's Assistant.
Customer: I replaced my stereo head unit in my 2011 Kia Optima lx an now my transmission is acting very odd it delays when shifting into drive and when it does it's a very hard shift and first gear lacks pick up power it's an automatic also the gear indicator light on the dash goes blank any help?

I don't believe what you're experiencing is actually related to replacing the radio It sounds as if the transmission is going into limp in. When the trans controller sees an issue it can lock you in a single gear, this would explain the hard shift into gear initially and the lack of power you're feeling on takeoff is because it isn't taking off in first gear.

The first step in diagnosing the issue is to use a code reader or scan tool to see what fault codes are setting. Have you had the codes read?
