Customer Question

my 2002 focus zts will only go into first gear if its sitting at a stop is this normal?
JA: How many miles are on the car? Have you noticed any fluid leaks lately?
Customer: 190000 and no but I haven't had the car long
JA: Tell me a bit more about what's going on so he can help you best.
Customer: It acts like there is no syncromesh for first gear like an old 4 speed trans for a truck
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself?
Customer: yes
JA: Great! What have you tried so far?
Customer: nothing
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Ford Mechanic should know about your Ford?
Customer: I don't think so
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Ford Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

It may be a sign that your clutch pressure plate is wearing out- possibly the clutch is not releasing fully, and since it doesn't have the syncros in first gear, it can't line up when it is turning.
