Customer: Shifts from 1st to 2nd normal, when should shift to 3rd it kicks out of gear, goes back into 2nd when speed drops

when it goes into 3rd it will act like neutral when its supposed to be in 3rd ?

when this happens the issue is the 3-4 clutches air gap is too great or the 3-4 clutch piston is stuck or the 3-4 clutch piston seal is missing or torn

the only difference between 2nd and 3rd gear is the 3-4 clutch pack being applied and when its not 3rd will act like neutral

Before rebuilding, it would slip going into 3rd with heavy throttle, then driving normal it lossed everything but 1_2 and 3_4 clutches were toasted, still only 1-2 after rebuild

holding the drum up and applying air up the input drum shaft fluid hole with 30 psi and see if the 3-4 clutches apply

Replaced seperater plate, because old one had over sized holes the balls were going Thur plate, order new one from local shop, have heard that two holes need to be enlarged some times, is there any thing to this

no you never have to enlarge any of the plate holes

new plate and the check balls all in place and where they belong

How much air gap should the clutches have

.035 to .055 range keep them tighter on more so to the .035 side of the spec

They are now, at first where is a slot and one ball sits in spot and goes in the slot, my son had two balls in slot it came from other trans, so had a total 10 balls

What part does the servo play

the servo is for the low reverse band and plays no part for 3rd gear

Did notice that if shifter is in 1st or 2nd gear position it act as if it's in higher gear, doesn't have starting off power, but in 3rd or od position brakes won't hold it back

this 93 transmission does it have a big round electrical plug at it ?

if you're talking about the one coming out of the case were it plugs to the external harness

if it has the big round plug be sure the pink wire at that connector shows 12 volts with the key ON

if it does go after that 3-4 clutch issue

Had it on rack, 1-2 selonoid would ground , change to 2nd would unground, 3-4 selonoid won't go to ground. After engine reached temp, 1-2 selonoid won't ground. Stays in 1st

Not now, it's staying in first. By probing the selonoid wires using ohms. A selonoid would ground when shifter in OD position, would shift to 2nd, a selonoid would loose ground. B selonoid wouldn't ever ground. Now a nor b will ground in OD position. But in L1 B selonoid will ground

are you sure all the grounds are clean and tight on the engine ?

if so you need to see if you can shift this transmission with a scan tool

Seems that the readings at trans change every time the trans was shifted from park to OD while running, one time the B selonoid was showing ground while in park

take it back apart and air check everything..

ad the transgo shift kit..

try not to use alto clutches.use raybestos if you can

the transgo shift kit is the best fix we have found to prevent the 3-4 clutch pack burn up

if this isnt the 3-4's it is in the valve body,,it has a stuck valve.and isnt getting fluid pressure to the 3-4's

Shifts to 2nd perfect, when reaches spead for third goes to neutral. The other thing that puzzles me is, if the gear selector is in D1 or D2, it has a slipping effect as if it's trying to pull off in a higher gear, like trying to start a manual trans of in 4th instead of 2nd or 3rd. The trans was rebuild and doing fine, while normal driving it appear to go to neutral and will no longer take 3rd

Same valve body, the torque converter seal had spun in pump cover, changed cover

also the separator plate is different..was it replaced?

the front pump,,does it have the letters PWM on it?

Seperater plate new thru trans shop, not where I can see pump, got it at trans shop and they matched

there is something certainly not right there

it is in the valve body,plate or the pump,,there is no pressure getting to the 3-4
