I have a 2000 Mercedes 320 ML and it went into "limp mode".

Customer Question

I have a 2000 Mercedes 320 ML and it went into "limp mode". Also at the same time the automatic door locks "trigger" on start up and at the same time the manual shifter stopped working. I bought a MB transmission dipstick at the dealer to check the fluid level and it was perfect. I even cleaned the air intake sensor witht he proper spray fluid to rule out that sensor. Have you experienced this specific problem in the past and if so, could you provide to me the solution.
Thanks,
Sam

Hi Sam, my name is***** "limp home" do you mean that the transmission stays in 2nd gear and will not shift up?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it stays in low gear
Expert:  Marty replied 1 year ago.

Ok, can you get it out of limp home mode by turning the key off and on?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No it will not get out of 2nd gear(limp mode)

Ok, there are a few possibilities for limp home mode on the Mercedes.

Expert:  Marty replied 1 year ago.

The most common is faulty speed sensors in the transmission.

The other possibilities are a faulty gearshift module or a faulty transmission control module.

You need to get the car connected to a Mercedes Star Diagnosis tester to read out the fault codes in the transmission control module. The fault codes will point to the specific problem.

The door lock problem is probably unrelated to the transmission problem. That problem is usually caused by a bad door lock actuator.
