Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

No vehicle information posted with the question but if you're seeing a service shifter warning then odds are your vehicle has a module inside the shifter assembly which has failed or there is an electrical issue with the module. A loss of bus communication or a loss of power or ground to the module could cause the warning.

The first thing that would need to be done is use a scan tool to see what fault codes are setting and go from there. On some vehicles the shifter module is serviced separately, or the entire shifter may need to be replaced.
