Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!
If it's grinding when you put it back into park that tells me that at least part of the drivetrain is spinning and that momentum is why the park pawl is grinding when you put it in park. It's the same as if you attempted to put it into park while still moving.
You could have a broken CV shaft, failure in the rear differential, or a mechanical failure in the transfer case if it's all wheel drive.
With the trans in park you're still able to push the car, correct?
Is it all wheel drive?
