Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!
If the noise is actually coming from the transmission it could be the pump whining, a geartrain component or thrust bearing that has failed. I've seen geartrain issues on these here and there and a handful of transfer gear bearing failures.
The harsh shifting is happening because a clutch volume index has been driven too high. This could be a fluid degradation or software issue but it may also be clutch damage or leakage. The harsh shifting may be related to the noise. Debris, a clutch or geartrain failure could be causing it.
