My Chrysler Voyager 2005 model is not going into gear (Slipping) - Fuel filter and Transmission filter was not changed at last service according the the mechanic.Ive been told that I need to recon my transmission, should I change the filters first befor I go for the Transmission fix?
Country: South AfricaMake: TransmissionsModel: Chrysler Grand VoyagerYear: 2005Engine: 2.8L Diesel Already Tried: Took the car to a mechanic and he says that there is probably something wrong in the gearbox itself, but my previous mechanic said that he did not change the transmission filter at last serice because he could not get the part. Should I change the filter and transmission oil before I am forced to spend big bucks on specialists iether fixing the gearbox or selling me another one?
Hi I look forward to helping you with your question, Doug
Can you please check if the fluid is low , does it smell burnt , and does it feel like it is going into any gear at all. Doug
Hi Doug
The fluid is not low, it does not smell burnt and it does go into gear and moves a bit for a few seconds then slips out again.
It sounds like you have a bad front pump , or torque converter , possable bad stator bushings , the bad and hard part hear is the only way to know for sure is to hook it up to a scan tool that will read live data, at that point you can manualy shift the trans , and see what the problems are, it is possable that the filter is pluged up , you could pull trans . pan and look for bronze matl. at the bottom of pan , if you have this matl. on the bottom of pan it will need a overhaul.
