Hello and thank you for trusting me with your question. I will do my best to help you with your transmission problem.

The reason is that you are reading codes from the engine control module. The P0700 is a generic transmission code meaning there is a problem in the transmission control module. For other codes you will need a scan tool capable of reading codes from the transmission control module. The problem is most likely a dead VSS (vehicle speed sensor) judging from the symptoms. You could verify this with codes from the transmission control module or go ahead and replace the sensor.

If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

in your opinion, would it most likely be the output or input sensor? or should I replace both?

The output sensor is the one that drives the speedometer. Since the speedometer is dead, it would be the output sensor.

Dave,
Just some feedback: It was the output speed
sensor that failed, just as you had said. I replaced it
and no more problem. Thanks again for your help!
