Ford Thunderbird Sport: My son just called and said he thinks

My son just called and said he thinks he put engine oil in the transmission of a '88 T-Bird and drove it for 5 miles, pulled over and now there is smoke coming out from under the hood. Is the Tranny fried or would it be worth having it towed to a shop and having the tranny flushed? Thanks, Norman

Hello and welcome to justanswer,

It could damage the trans if the oil is left in the transmission long enoug but you may be ok, do not drive it any more and get it towed. A complete flush and filter changed is needed ASAP. You have a fairly good chance of being okay.
