My 02 Saturn L200 automatic transmission won't shift up past 2nd gear, the AC doesn't work either, what could be wrong, and are the problems related
Country: United StatesMake: SaturnModel: l200Year: 2002Engine: 2.2
Hi,how are you? From what you are describing the two issues are not related to each other. The transmission not shifting above 2nd gear would be an indication that the torque converter is getting stuck and not allowing the vehicle to shift. The a/c would first need to have the freon level checked to ensure that the system is full.

I wasn't sure if maybe a control module was going bad causing problems with both, since it's a common problem on the L-series.
The car only has 59k on it, it has been sitting for about 6 months, could it be a solenoid problem? That seems a more likely problem then a torque converter going out with so few miles. It was driven by an elderly woman to and from church and the grocery store. So definitely not driven hard by any means.
The trans should be checked on a trans scanner to read the pressure readings and the Tcc lock up times, not rolling out a solenoid but it should be throwing a trouble code. These transmissions have issues even at early mileage.
