Thanks for using JA

I would not recommend a rebuild just because the fluid is dark.

the fault should be diagnosed, this could be a faulty shift solenoid. and a possible transmission fluid, filter service.

you need to have the transmission module scanned for trouble codes, if any found then the faults should be rectified. if none found the next step would be a pressure line test.

based on the results of the above a recommendation should be made.

but not a rebuild yet.

Hello and thank you for trusting me with your question. I will do my best to help you with your transmission problem.

New expert here. The P1811 code shows a problem with the transmission pressure control solenoid. When this code sets, the computer maximizes transmission pressures, this results in the harsh shift. The transmission pressure control solenoid will need to be replaced to fix the problem. You will not need to rebuild the transmission. The typical cost for this repair depends upon the shop, but I have heard quotes from $275-450.

The problem appeared when the fluid was replaced 60000mi ago ,is it possible for the problem to go way once I put a new fluid and filter?

No, this problem will not go away with a fluid change. It is very common for the pressure control solenoids to go bad in this transmission and the only fix is to replace the pressure control solenoid. You can continue to drive the car as is, it will not harm anything for the transmission to shift more firmly. Most people do not like the feel though and wish to repair for this reason.

If properly maintained, these transmissions can last 250,000 miles or more. This means having regular fluid changes at around 50,000 miles or less. If the fluid has not been regularly changed, you may be nearing the end of the service life for your transmission.
