Can you tell me why you think the internal transmission is damaged? Does it shift properly if you correct the transmission cable issue?

To answer your question, you will want to stick anywhere from 96 to 99 for the transmission, and yes you will need to stay with the diesel engine application in order to have the transmission. In work properly.

When I crawl under the truck and select a gear using the transmission selector on the side of the trans, I can put it in park, but when I try any other gear it seems like the tranny is in more than one gear at once or something is slipping. If I try a blurp on foot feed, the motor reacts similar to what it would feel like if you were doing a brake torque

What is the condition of the transmission fluid Stan?

Customer replied 295 days and 18 hours ago.

The fluid does have a burnt smell & is darker than it should be. We had the truk idling for about ten minutes while we loaded it on to a trailer so we could have brakes & steering and my son touched the botom of the pan after it was on the trailer & said that was hotter than the exhaust pipe.

Understood. That does make it very clear that internal transmission damage is likely and you are wise to seek out a complete replacement.

Let me offer this for your consideration. Gm sells reman units, the reason to consider gm over others s the price is reasonable for a complete drop in, but better yet, the drop on, even if you install it will have a 3 year, 100000 mile parts and labor warranty. Just some food for thought.
