Hi I would like to help you out. I need some more info. You say 1-3 shifts ok. So I assume 1-2 is ok and 2-3 is ok. but the 3-4 shift neutrals out. Correct. You then say it works perfectly in overdrive. But 4th gear is overdrive so at first you say the 3-4 shift neutrals out and then you say overdrive works perfectly??? Can you please clarify with me if it is actually 4th gear you are having the issues with. And when you say works perfectly in overdrive do you mean with overdrive off when you depress the o/d button. Just want to make sure we are on the same page and talking about the same thing. Thanks

Just so you know the yellow plug is from the factory, this plug is in place off the dipstick hole until the transmission is installed in the vehicle so it does not leak. To install the dipstick tube they push the plug into the pan and it stays there until the pan is removed. This is normal for this transmission. It can be thrown away now.

sorry my mistake. It works fine with overdrive off

Thanks thats what I thought but wanted to make sure we are the same page and talking about the same thing. The only different apply componenet related to 4th gear that has no relation to the others is the o/d band. It is possible the o/d band has broken or the o/d servo piston has a torn seal or broken rod. The servo piston is under the valve body but when removed the band falls out of place and piston can't be reinstalled. At this point the transmission will require removal and teardown to find casual component and rebuild, or replace transmission. Thanks

Depends where you get it. What is nice about the ford remanufactured transmissions is that they are covered by a 3yr/ unlimited mileage warranty on parts and labor nationwide at any dealership. Rought estimate is about $3000 total. You may get out about $500 cheaper if you go with another remanufactured unit like jasper, etc. More exact quotes can be given if you call the dealership and other local transmission shops in your area. Thanks
