The Virginia Lemon law is in effect for used cars as long as the vehice was covered by the original manufacturer's warranty when you got it, and the period of 18 months from the date that the original manufacturer's warranty first went into effect with the ORIGINAL OWNER has not expired.
Otherwise you may have an action for fraud. If you can show that the dealer knew about the issue and did not disclose it to you, then you may have a cause of action for fraud. You have to act quickly if you pursue a fraud claim because statute of limitations runs out quickly on fraud claims, usually only two years. Being that the casr was sold as is, does not relieve the seller form disclosing all material defects int he car.
