I tried to recharge my A/C in my 2008 Toyota Avalon.

Customer Question

Hi, I tried to recharge my A/C in my 2008 Toyota Avalon. However, the A/C started making a weird noise and the car shut off. Now, the car runs fine until I press the A/C button, the car just shuts off. Any guess as to what the issue is?
JA: Have you checked the Freon level?
Customer: I have the can of Freon that I bought. I would have to go back and check the levels though. Toyota told me that it could be the belt in the compressor and that its belt is/or could be locked.
JA: Are you fixing your Avalon yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes, and this is first time I have ever put Freon in a car. However, I'm pretty good at figuring things out. So far I haven't tried anything I went to Autozone, and they thought it could be a fuse or relay
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no that's all

Hello, there's a couple things that can cause this.

1. Compressor is seized so engaging the clutch is causing the motor to stall

2. AC is overcharged causing the compressor to lock up when the clutch is engaged stalling the engine.

If you could let me know the pressure in the system with the ac off and if you can spin the end plate of the compressor by hand that will help
