Have Toyota Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Thank you for allowing me to help you with this concern today and am sorry to hear that this is happening. I will have to ask you a few questions so that I can get a better understanding as to what may be going on with your Prius C.
Did this concern happen overnight or all of a sudden?
Is the original AUX battery (not the Hybrid one) in this Prius C?
Ok, so you were letting the car run and warming it up, then came out to check on it and it was dead and will not restart? Is this correct?
How long did you leave it running outside?
Do you remember how much gas was in it this morning?
Yes, this is very odd, I agree.
How many miles are on your Prius C?
Right now, with something this odd, there isn't much to go on for sure. I'm hoping that maybe a few more question might help so please bear with me.
With this 1/2 gas, was this just filled up recently or have you had this tank of gas for a few days now? (this could help us rule out contaminated fuel)
Have you tried to jump start it or charge the AUX battery yet?
Ok, that will be our next step. This is just a basic type repair that we should perform before we move on to anything else. Always check the basics.
You can trickle charge the AUX battery or try and jump start it whichever you have access too. The AUX battery is different/separate from the big Hybrid one and is located under the passenger side rear seat, just behind a plastic panel. Here is a video showing where the battery is and how to access it...
Does this make sense so far?
This is a Prius C correct? Passenger rear seat...
I see. Allow me to opt out and another Expert will be along shortly. Thanks
are you still needing assistance?
so did you get it started? customer service is the only one who handles that. I am a Toyota tech just seeing if you needed help. the prius does not stay running when warming up unless it is put in service mode to maintain the engine on. otherwise it will shut the engine off and run on the aux battery. when the aux battery dies it requires a massive boost to jump start normally. sometimes just a simple boost will do the trick.
