Have 1999 Toyota Forerunner with 129K. Runs well after

Customer Question

Have 1999 Toyota Forerunner with 129K. Runs well after starting cold, but restarting after brief off begins to run rough and miss for a few miles then begins to run smoothly again. Any ideas?
JA: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged?
Customer: Yes.
JA: What is the make/model of your car?
Customer: 1999 Toyota Forerunner, 3.4 liter
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: No. Took it to Toyota dealer, they said it could be head gasket, fuel injectors, or spark plug short. The way runs and then cuts out doesn't sound like a head problem.
JA: What year is your '99 Toyota?
Customer: 1999
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

Thanks for posting,

Did the Toyota dealer give you any diagnostic trouble codes? It does sound like possibly an electrical issue causing a misfire. If you don't have any code information can you get it to an autozone or similar parts store to have them read the codes, they do this at no charge then please reply here and I can help some more with this.

Possibly a sticking fuel injector or a bad coil, unless there is lots of smoke from exhaust I doubt the headgaskets are the problem.
