Hi. What engine is in your ae100?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
1.3 4e
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 4 months ago.

Ok thanks. Does the engine rev up like normal?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
The rev is normal. just the tachometer is lower and very slow to move
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 4 months ago.

Generally when the tach is moving slow, it indicates that the tach gauge itself is lazy and needs replacing.

Havent used the car in 3 months. Any rusty components might have factor in? Replaced my radio those times. And my previous radio is connected to tach and volt
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Any grounding that have been missed?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 4 months ago.

A bad ground would cause various electrical issues. Rust on components would not cause that. Have you checked the charging system voltage?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
The alternator works fine. Just sometimes im hearing static noises on the radio when im revving up
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Is it connected to the starter?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 4 months ago.

The charging system should be checked for an overcharge condition. THe alternator can send out RF signals that can be heard through the radio. Also the battery ground and chassis grounds should be checked for tightness and for being clean.

Is what connected to the starter?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Sometimes its ok i can get 750rpm idle reading. Sometimes its in 300rpm only. but same engine sound.I had a case also when i did rev up. The odometer gauge went up as well
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Is the tach connected to the starter?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 4 months ago.

No. That tachometer is connected to the ignition module. If the odometer went up also, then there is an instrument cluster problem.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
When i revved up, the tach goes up normally. but the speedometer needle went up as well.
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 4 months ago.

SOunds like you have a problem with the instrument cluster. But you should still check the battery chassis ground.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
I had already fixed the speedometer problem. its a loose connection at the sensor i think. It doesnt go up with the tach now. but it seems quite slow also
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Where is the battery chassis ground located?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 4 months ago.

It is connected to the battery negative cable. Follow the negative cable down to where it mounts to the chassis.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
its properly connected
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 4 months ago.

Ok. I think your tachometer may need replacement. But I will opt-out and another expert may have more info on this for you.

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
By the way.. the tach reaches minimum normal at 750rpm when the engine is quite longer running. but it have difficulty going up to 2000rpm to 3000rpm
