I am confused about "control modules". I have a 2007 Toyota

Customer Question

I am confused about "control modules". I have a 2007 Toyota Rav4 2.4 with an intermittent headlight problem. Sometimes the ONLY way for me to get ANY headlights is to hold the high beam lever back, while when the headlight lever is set in either the regular or high position I get NO headlights. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what control module needs replacing...BCM, ECM, ECU or PCM. Some people use these terms interchangeably whereas they are not referring to the same part. I ordered a "BCM", and the mechanic says I actually received a PCU (Power train control module). For headlight issues, exactly which part do I want and how it would be identified as on my 2007 rav4. If you can answer this I would very, very very much appreciate it!!!!

Hi, I’m Cary and I’ll be helping you today.
Please understand that I can't smell, hear, or touch the vehicle, so patience is appreciated. Before leaving the site make sure and leave me a rating. You can still reply to me as many times as needed, even after the rating..

Does your RAV4 have daytime running lamps or auto headlamp control?

ECM (engine control module), ECU (engine or electronic control unit), PCM (powertrain control module) all the same thing

BCM (body control module)

I kept trying to get your response and received a message you don't have my correct credit card info. Tried 2 valid cards. So please don't try to charge me for anything, especially if this is supposed to be a full trial. I went on to another site and got an excellent explanation in their chat room.
