2005toyota landcruiser Gxl 4.2 turbo diesel. The engine

Customer Question

2005toyota landcruiser Gxl 4.2 turbo diesel. The engine starts easily every time but every now and then losses power or stops after approx 10-15seconds of starting . Have to wind motor for 10 seconds or more then runs and pulls good for rest of day. This only happens on cold start first in morning . Once warm doesn't give any problems. Have not had anybody look at this problem

Hi, I would be checking the fuel filter and fuel lines for air leaks, it could be that you have a small leak that allows the fuel to run back down the lines to the tank overnight, when you start the engine, it runs of what is in the pump and filter drawing through air and then fuel again as It pulls it back through the lines, for the rest of the day all seems well until overnight the air gets back in.

Check the filter for condition and torque, a hand held mitty vac tester can be invaluable for tracing air leaks.
